On Artistic Partnership

Patronage and curation.

Two indespinsable aspects of artistic production. Different cultures at different times have found different ways of hacking these: the church, the aristocracy, the state; posters, radio stations, (insert ominous choir music…) algorithms.

Making and disseminating good art is expensive and hard (unless presumably, you belong to the ubermensch). And, as crazy as it might sound, I’m trying to do this as close to full time as possible. It feels weird to ask people to give money to help me realize my artistic dreams. I’m not. It’s not about my dreams. But I do want to build a network of patrons rooted in real relationships, not on internet marketing gimmicks, and dedicated to a shared vision of bringing new songs and stories into the world.

I believe good art matters in a fallen world being redeemed. Am I the person to do it? Definitely not. But insofar as I have opportunity, I aspire to join the ranks of those faithful artists who have gone before, one of many humble foot soldiers working in the trenches of culture to the glory of God.

If this idea interests you, let’s talk. I think there a lot of pros to a private patronage model, providing artists patrons with community and the ability to influence each other’s work and lives.
